It’s 2009- Will People ever follow the rules of Cell phone Etiquette?

I just cannot believe in this time and age people still don’t use proper cell phone etiquette. I was at a memorial service a few weeks ago.  During the service, someone’s cell phone  starts to ring, with one of those loud ring tones.  I couldn’t believe it.  Hey it’s 2009.   This wasn’t a one time deal either.  I am at exercise class someone’s cell phone starts to ring, or in the movie theatre and sure enough someone’s phone goes off. I can go on and on.  The most unbelievable  is when I am driving and I look at the car next to me and the person is texting.  What is that about?  When will that become illegal in the state of Florida and in every state in the US?

Some rules to remember:

Turn off your cell phone in Restaurants, Libraries, Meetings, Places of Worship,Movie theatres, Live performances, and the  Gym.  If you must have it on, put it in vibrate mode.  If you need to answer a call, then step out since I and the others around you do not want to hear your conversation.

When driving, if you must use your cell phone, please use it hands free.  Many states require this.  Frankly this should be a law in every state.

Do NOT text when driving.  It is extrmely dangerous. You can cause a serious accident.

Do NOT talk on the phone when riding your bycicle  unless you are using the phone hands free.

Do NOT speak loudly. When you must answer the phone in public places, nobody wants to hear your conversation. Remember, do not hold inappropriate conversations either when speaking on your cell in a public place.

Dressing for Your Job Interview

I was recently asked the following question:

If an applicant shows up for an interview dressed inappropriately, do you mention it to them?  Obviously it shows poor judgment, but I’m curious as to whether you ask if they think they are dressed appropriately.  Thanks.

Janet T.  From NJ

LMansfield4  immediately commented  “I wouldn’t mention it to them but the interview wouldn’t be a long one.”

In our company Pronetis Corporation’s blog, Now Its All About Me,   “Common Interview Mistakes” post, we discuss that dressing inappropriately for a job interview can cost you landing the job.  As you can see from the comments between Janet and LMansfield they concur.  So how should you dress for an interview?

If you are unsure of how to dress for a job interview, I would err on the conservative side and dress formal. Stick with neutral colors: black, brown, blue and gray.  Don’t wear heavy colognes or perfumes.  Ladies, don’t overdo the jewelry and makeup.  If you smoke, don’t smoke before your interview. The interviewer will smell it on you, your clothes and your  hair.  Guys, you need to wear a suit and a tie.  Make sure your shirt is ironed, suit is pressed and your shoes are polished. Leave the jeans, khakis,  tees and sneakers at home.  Women, you can either wear a  skirt or pant suit or you  can get away with simply a nice skirt such as a classic A Line and a blouse. Make sure you wear hosiery and nice shoes.  No sandals or flip flops please. Women, check out the 14 point dressing system to make sure you are dressed appropriately.

Have you ever dressed inappropriately for a job interview?  I’d love to hear about it.
