Welcome to the Ask DearGaby’s Blog
Welcome to the official Ask DearGaby blog. I am a certified image consultant and stylist. Not sure what I do? Have you ever seen Bravo’s popular TV shows Queer Eye for the Straight Guy or more recently, Tim Gunn’s Guide to Style? Like Carson Kreesley or Tim Gunn, I help people look spectacular, dress amazing, improve their behavior, eat healthier, and simply improve their lifestyle.
What Makes My Blog Different?
People immediately think that image is all about how one looks. In other words, that means makeup, hairstyle, fashion, shape, etc. Basically everything that comprises your appearance. But image is much more than that. It also encompasses one’s behavior and both verbal and non verbal communications. Most image consultants focus in on the appearance aspect of the image. But imagine meeting someone; they look great, dress fashionably and is sporting a great hairstyle. However, this person, is loud, makes crude comments and never smiles. What did you think of his person? Probably not very much.
Basically, we already know many of the things that go into improving our appearance such as having good hygiene and grooming habits , eating right, exercising regularly, etc. If we don’t there are many websites and blogs already on the internet to get the information. But not all of us are able to succeed at improving our overall image because of other factors such as our environment and who we are on the inside. In other words, a great image consultant will look at the entire person not only from the outside (appearance) but they must also understand the inside of the person such as personality and their environment including lifestyle.
Our Approach
At Ask DearGaby, we do just that. We take a holistic approach and look at everything that comprises your image. Yes we do spend time discussing improving your appearance, but we also explore subjects including etiquette, non verbal and verbal communications, and all the other components that help form your image and then more importantly, we try to help you incorporate these things into your lifestyle.
Experience
What makes me such an expert in this area? What kind of experience do I have? As I was growing up, I was always being complimented on how I looked and my ability to obtain success early in my life. People always would ask me about it and ask me to help them achieve the same. But knowing about projecting the image you want to project was something that was innate in me not learned from a book. Than as I entered into the corporate world, I continued to achieve tremendous success. I have many years experience in the corporate world as an executive. As part of my responsibilities, I was helping my staff improve their image so they could advance in their career, make a great impression in front of our clients and help them succeed in both their career and personal life. I really enjoyed this aspect of my corporate role so I ultimately became certified as an Image Consultant and Stylist and started my own consulting company.
Since becoming a certified image consultant and stylist, I have been providing highly customized individual image and style services to my clients at a national level. I assist my clients in projecting the personal and professional image they want to achieve. As a result, my clients ultimately develop the confidence to dress with style, learn how to incorporate their distinctive style personality into their wardrobe so they can look their best, strengthen their self esteem, and obtain the tools to help achieve personal and professional success.
DearGaby is a volunteer for Look Good Feel Better (LGFB). LGFB was created from the concept that if someone with cancer can be helped to look good, their improved self-esteem will help them to approach their disease and treatment with greater confidence. For more information on LGFB click here.
